The K 4 program will prepare students in the areas of phonics, numbers, cursive writing, and developmental skills so they will be ready for kindergarten. This unique style pre-K program is a full day program, students must turn 4 years old by September 1 of the year enrolling.
The Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Program at Baldwinsville
Christian Academy uses the A Beka curriculum. This is the curriculum used throughout the elementary grades.
The four main areas taught are Bible, phonics/reading, writing, and numbers.
Bible is the first subject taught each day. The class will consist of learning the Pledge to the Flag, memory verse work, songs, prayer, and an illustrated Bible lesson.
The phonics and reading material will help your K 4 child start the reading process. In the first half of the year, they begin mastering the vowels and consonants and their sounds. This process leads to forming blends and beginning to read simple words. The children continue learning the phonics but also start reading groups during the second semester.
The cursive writing material correlates with their phonics. They
learn to write each lower case letter first. They will then connect letters to form blends and simple words. Some of the capital letters are introduced as well.
In numbers, the K 4 student will learn to recognize numbers 1-20. They will practice counting to 100, distinguish before and after numbers, larger and smaller numbers, write 1-20, and answer simple addition combinations.
Other weekly activities will include physical education, art, music, and language development.
By the end of the year, your K 4 student will be ready and eager to take that next step into Kindergarten and all the wonderful things that learning experience will bring!!!
